A Dream

by

Alice C. Bateman

I had a dream of you and I

We were standing side by side

Looking out upon the land

We had worked with our own hands

All our hurts and disappointments

Had been soothed by what we’d built

All our hurts and disappointments

All our agonies and guilt

‘Twas a dream that I will cherish

For we had our children there

They were gathered all around us

In that sweet fresh country air

We were free to love our children

Give them hugs and hold them tight

I could finally stop my crying

For my children in the night

You and I had built a family

From the ashes of our pasts

You and I had built a family

One that lasts and lasts and lasts

Will this dream come true, I wonder

Is it just another dream

Or a vision of the future

Please God, bring me what I’ve seen
