It Could Be Very Sweet

by

Alice C. Bateman

I’m having trouble sleeping

Cause you’re not here with me

I run my fingers through my hair

And wonder what will be

How can I get involved again

How can I think to start

Can love brand new fill up the cracks

That life’s put in my heart

Tonight I’ve read each word again

That you have sent to me

I read them all by Coach-light

And I’ve begun to see

That you seem to care a lot

About my life and times

You truly have astounded me

With your romantic rhymes

My Knight in Shining Armor?

Who carries a broad spear?

Will you come to rescue me?

Belay my foolish fear?

My Mother called me Velvet Paws

You call me Velveteen

Perhaps we can forget about

All that’s come in between

We’re both here in this lifetime

It would be good to meet

And see what lies between us

It could be very sweet…
