Sadness

A Tribute to the slain children

by

Alice C. Bateman

People shooting children

What is happening to our world

These things just didn't happen

When I was a little girl

We're afraid to send our children

Off to Church or school

Tell me, when did they forget

There is a Golden Rule?

When did hate become so rampant

Why'd the bullets start to fly

All the parents losing children

It just makes me want to cry

When did this world get so violent

Has it always been this way?

Please join me now in silence

As we bow our heads and pray

For the souls of all the children

Who've been taken from our care

For the hearts of all the parents

Whose deep pain we try to share

And for all the wounded people

Who turn to violent means

To show the world the anger

In their souls that are not clean
