To The Never Born

By

Alice C. Bateman

  Where did you go

Your little soul

Was with me

Now you’re gone

It’s very hard

To take this in

As sudden as it seems

You’ve taken with you

Many things

Not least of all some dreams

God’s Will, not mine

Hard as it is

To understand some days

His Quill, not mine

Must write the script

While we act out the plays

Your father didn’t want you, dear

Is that why you have gone

Back to the ever-after

Left me a lonely dawn

‘Cause when I wake tomorrow

And know that you’re not here

Tears will soak my pillow

I’ll never hold you near
