Two boys met
In the freshman hall
By the numbers on their lockers
As fate would have
Their alliance took a toll
On books and soccer
They bowed their heads in church
But saw religion as their lackey
The dried up parchment read aloud
Tried them
Not even maybe
They hit the streets
And called it business
Till one mapped out bad strategy
His buddy went to jail for good
But while there made a parley
He told himself
The truth one day
Preparing conversation
With the Maker of the Universe
And found there better station
If that thief up on the cross
He said
Could find such sweet Companion
Then why not he
So on his knees
He breathed in such compassion
The good book says
Some ways seem right to us in natural blindness
But the ends thereof
You may avoid
In accepting this same kindness
