Love Lane

by

Caterina Kenworthy

As our steps beat the sidewalk in a predictable unison
Using a gentle touch instead of words to say what we mean
His hand braids with mine

I press closer against his shoulder
trying to mingle my warmth with his

I stop
He stops

An opportunity bursts apart and flourishes
I turn to him

His eyes are what the sky wished it were
Looming and sweet
A sugary blue
Enough to get lost in

Closer
His breathe against my cheek
My fingers running through his hair
His lips soft beneath mine

I smile against him
To think we came so far

I walk
He walks
As our steps beat the sidewalk in a predictable unison
Using a gentle touch instead of words to say what we mean
His hand braids with mine
