Another Monday

by

Christine Raposo

Everyone, at one point in their life, feels like giving up. We start rethinking life; down to the littlest thing like how we smile. We wonder why things happen the way they do; why they happen to us. Sometimes we don’t even realize it. Then when it hits us, we wonder why it even matters and if anyone else thinks about these things.

Julie walked into her room after a long day of school, locked her door, and fell to the floor in tears. ‘It’s too much...It’s just too much!’ she thought. The only thing worse then not knowing what’s going on is knowing exactly what’s going on. Her friends weren’t talking to her, her boyfriend was hiding something, and her parents were breathing down her neck about applying to university, and because of all this, her school work was suffering. It seemed that the harder she tried to fix things, the worse it got. She just wanted to give up. She wanted to not care. She just wanted it to all be over.

Her days were a big blur. Every day was exactly the same as the last; like one long Monday that had no end in sight. She never bothered to look at a clock during class. There was no point in counting down till tomorrow; Till another Monday.

She picked herself up off the floor and sat on the edge of her bed. She tried to make herself think of other things like she had so many times before. Distraction was necessary if she was going to get through the rest of the day.

So once again, like so many other days that have passed in her life, she wiped the tears out of her eyes and put all bad thoughts behind her. Her mother’s words spoken from long ago suddenly flooded her mind ‘Never Let them see you cry!’ That was her one rule. She’d do whatever it took to never break it. She put a smile on and wiped the mascara smudges off her face. She walked to her door, took a deep breath, and left; ready to face yet another Monday.
