Disgust

by

Cinnamon Brown

When I look at myself all I see is filth
I see a mirror of my mother
A portrait of my father,
and lashes of my ancestors.

They tell me to be proud of who I am
To stand tall and smile.

I do not see success in my eyes
I do not see power at my hands
I just see failure.

My mother told me that I was just like daddy
And daddy told me I was just like mommy.

Well mommy is an alcoholic
And daddy is abusive.

How am I supposed to feel
When that is what I have been told that I am.

In subconscious words they are telling me
That I will never be anything.

I look at them and myself with disgust.
