A Lonely Soldier

by

D. A. Williams

A lonely soldier
Sits alone with his thoughts
Of the little boy
That died inside
And of the innocence lost
Killed by his parents
Fulfilling their own needs
And feeding like gluttons
At the table of greed

Using him like a pawn
In the war that they wage
Too busy to notice
His feelings of rage
They can't see where they aim
But fire shots in the dark
With each pull of the trigger
It tears him apart

Twenty years later
He sits alone
With his thoughts
And his pen
He tells the stories
Of the battles
That nobody wins
