Alone in the Dark

by

D. A. Williams

Alone in the dark
I sigh in deep reflection
The way I live my life
My only form of protection

People can't stab me in the back
If I never turn it away
Can't misconstrue my words
If I have nothing to say

They cannot break my heart
If I never let them in
And cannot take my pride
If I never let them win

They won't understand my anger
If they've never felt the rain
Or comprehend my feelings
If they never felt the pain

Or why I keep on swinging
Even after the fight
Because alone in the dark
I can still see the light.
