Father's Eyes

by

D. A. Williams

When I look in the mirror
Why do I hate what I see?
Stand face to face with myself
I find my father's eyes looking at me

Those same cold eyes
That I learned to distrust
The ones never there
To see the finest moments
Are now there to haunt me
Now that my life is at its lowest

Am I as frigid as he?
Am I really that cold?
Did my love for life die?
Have I lost my soul?

I cried this morning
My greatest fears realized
'Cause when I looked in the mirror
I saw my father's eyes
