A Prayer Goes Unheard

by

Dana  Ledden

I begin shaking as a horrible sound rings out---
A raging war begins again,
the war that has become a legend to the world,
The legend that speaks to the core of my soul.
Those blinding skies,
the terror your feel as your body stands still,
Frozen, waiting--waiting,
paralysed by fear.
Fear of whom?
The one who holds my life in his hands-
my life they seek to destroy.
Oh, if only the clouds would open up and draw us into the
heavens.
The peace of mind, body and soul we would have.
Oh, the mind fears no more!
I shake my head---
I am still here
dreaming again,
wishing--I had the strength to go on.
Oh heavens, why did you let us die?
