My Despair

by

Daniel R. Menage

You see it coming,
the black swarm of my despair
the trouble on the horizon
it blankets all with a terrible darkness,

You've heard it,
the muffled screams of the eternally damned,
so blood curdling,
so bone chilling.

You've felt the ground shake
with the power of a coming apocalypse,
seen the fissures open,
you could run, could save yourself...

Yet your ground do you hold firm,
with your sword grasped tightly,
you silence the damned, seal the ground,
dissipate the swarm.

You drop your sword, I drop mine,
We take comfort in knowing,
we both bear scars,
from another battle won.

I raise my glass, a toast,
to my saving grace,
this one's for you...
