Demons of Old

by

Deena

The World of the Past

The World that I feared

The Demons of old

They’re no longer here!

Their torment is behind me

I’ve laid them all to rest

I thought that they knew me better

But it’s ME that does know best!

They thought they could break me

Oh, how hard they tried.

From fear, pain, and hopelessness

Most every night I cried!

They challenged my defenses

And haunted all my nights

The misery was endless

I grew weary of the fight!

But way down deep inside of me

Was a part they could not shake

And finally, after 50 years,

My true self is awake!

The Demons now are silent

Their power is deceased.

I took command of my own life.

There’s only ME to please!
