Upon This Pond

by

Diana Keeton

The storm has passed but driblets purl
Under the moonlit night.
Cockles of faith drift in hue
Upon this pond tonight.

I scream--I cry and challenge God
My question filled with spite
What did I do to anger you
Under the moonlit night.

He has survived the worst of it
He fought with all his might
But his future drifts in ripples
Upon this pond tonight

Now with time to reflect the past
My query grows in height
Why does my son have cancer
Under this moonlit night?

The images appeared one by one
Limned in mist of halo's light.
Courage, wisdom, strength all shone
Upon this pond tonight.

His answer vapours at water's edge
Free choice within my sight
Cry with him or cry alone
Under this moonlit night.

Faith beyond the ripple
Inhaled with all my might
Peace quells the inevitable
Upon this pond tonight.
