No Greater Love Than This

by

Diane Beauton

Whatever did the Father say,
To His precious Son that day?
As drops of blood sweat through His pores,
While on bent knees He bowed to pray.

“Father!” pled the Son in grief;
“Tell Me there’s another way?
And take this cup away from me;
Let it pass from me today.”

Tear drenched eyes, The Father sighed,
“The cross you bear, My Son, must stay.
The death you die, you die for all;
For all dear Son, have gone astray.”

“No greater gift can one man offer
To give his life for another;
You are the perfect Lamb of God,
My Son, My Son, there is no other!"

Prayed the Son, unto His Father
“Not My will, let Thine be done!
This very day, I’ll shed My blood;
My life; I give for everyone.”
