14 August (The Freedom Day of Pakistan)

by

Ehsan Elahi Ehsan

Today’s day is the day of freedom,

Let us be proud of it.

This day reminds you

To raise the honour and dignity

Of the land you live in.

Today’s day is the day of freedom

Let us be proud of it.

You have to kindle the dark nights

You have to decorate all the corners

Of this palace of your dreams.

You have to present some gift

To the coming generations

You have to prepare for their feast

And you have to promise anew

That you are determined to live boldly.

Today’s day is the day of freedom

Let us be proud of it.

Storms keep on coming and going

In the history of all great nations

But you have to keep yourself stable

And you have to plant the plants of hope

On every step during your journey

Today’s is the day of freedom

Let us be proud of it.

Whatever the Hindus, the Sikh and the Christians

Live on this land, they also give sacrifices

You have to give them freedom

More than you give to yourselves

You have to share their joys and sorrows

And treat them as your own brethren

Today’s day is the day of freedom

Let us be proud of it.

There is no doubt that you are

Sindis, Pakhtoons, Bloch and Panjabi

Yet more than that you are Pakistanis

You have to forget your provincial identities

And you have to raise one and only one slogan,

And that slogan is “Quaid Azam Zindabad, Pakistan Zindabad”

(“Long live Quaid Azam” (the founder of Pakistan)

And “Long live Pakistan”.
