Salvation

by

Geraldine Cook Davis

Sealed off from the souls of men
Sacred relics lay in reliquaries

Hip bone of Mary, spacious for birthing,
Weeps to dry the tears of infertility

The Chalice from The Last Supper
Hungers to quench thirst

Frail fingers of John the Baptist
Presses to rebirth dead souls

The net that Peter held
Gapes open to feed mouths below hollowed eyes

Splinters of Cross
Carries redemption

"Partake," each one wails
Fearful of oblivion
