Pretend

by

Heidi Yang

Let's go back in time
To when you were sweet and I was naive
Let's go back to when it was okay to be silly
To have fun
Let's forget that we ever lost each other
Let's pretend this never happened
Even though it did
I'm sorry it had to be this way
Could you ever forgive me?
Probably not
It doesn't work that way
Let's pretend it does
Just this once
Pretend you love me
Sounds like a lyric from a song
Think it is
Late night musings and crying myself to sleep
Over things you said
Yeah, you hurt me bad
Let's pretend you didn't and say you did
Then we can live happily ever after
Like the fairy tales you read as a kid
But that will never happen
This isn't a fairy tale
And you hurt me too badly
For things to ever be normal again
Too bad we can never really play
Pretend.
