The Owl and the Mouse get out of the House

by

Jack Mann

A children’s poem

The mean old Owl and the little mouse too
As you know, were friends through and through

The mouse felt like nothing could do him any harm
As long as the Owl was his good luck charm

Well the mean old Owl was getting hungry you see
He thought “that mouse is looking good to me”

But what would I do without my friend
To take care of me when I am on the mend.

So they decided to go for a walk
In the cool night air, they didn’t even have to talk.

That’s the way friends are when they are true
One seems to know what the other’s going to do.

Well it wasn’t very long before their problem was at ease
Because right before their eyes was a truckload of cheese.

The mouse was happy because he had found a good deal
But the Owl wasn’t sure if he would like this meal

After a while the Owl decided it was good
And he ate his fill, as you knew he would.

So they started back home and singing very loud
It wasn’t very long before they were drawing quite a crowd.

There were toad frogs, crickets and grasshoppers too
All of them were wondering just what we would do.

So they followed us along and joined in the song
What a happy time we all had.

All knew how good
It could be with a fowl
When the mouse had a friend
And the friend was an Owl.
