The Wisdom of the ages
Has been passed down to you and me
The use that we all make of it
Is yet for us to see
How did this wisdom come about?
Was it the hand of God?
It was, at times, I have no doubt
Yet I still look and prod
Most wisdom comes from errors
That we make from day to day
We should learn from our mistakes
As we go along life’s way
If we listen to our elders
When they try to pass it on
Then we can save ourselves the grief
And not have to do things wrong
But alas, the young are too smart for that
They already know it all
Just as we did before them
Still thinking very small
When will we learn the lessons
That life has taught us true
Only when we get to heaven
Will we know them too
