Granny

by

Janice Engle

I watched in quiet somber
the people sit in rows
They gathered at a funeral
for one whom they all know

I saw the teardrops falling
I heard the words of love
A comfort to the family
A gift from God above

The organ played a melody
Familiar to my ears
It brought back loving memories
I remembered all my years

The graveside was so beautiful
the flowers were so many
Children stood crying in a row
For someone they called Granny

Peace came over me as I watched
I felt God's loving hand
He said "Come child it's time to go
onto the Promise Land"

That's when I knew my time had come
I felt life slip away
My family I'd truly miss
But would see them again someday

I turned to Jesus took his hand
I felt such love within
Then once more I looked back
to see them once again
