Goodbye

by

Jodi Ebbesen

It was not hard to recognize
the anger in your eyes,
but could you see the hurt in mine
when we said good-bye?

Our lives have taken separate paths
no junction in between
and though I walk, my head held high
I bleed from wounds unseen

I tried to reach you one last time
but words I did not say
left me standing all alone
to watch you walk away

I pray that there will come a day
when you will understand
when I will overcome the pain
and learn to love again

I'll carry on, I'll make my life
I'll stretch my wings and fly
but rest assured I won't forget
the day we said good-bye
