The Grave

by

John Foster

Now standing at this blessed plot
where your friend lies quietly sleeping
You try to be brave, but you can not,
hold back the tears you are weeping.

Then think when the waves of life ran wild
You silently calmed the stormy sea.
Bringing love and happiness with your smile
and the light on his darkness was thee.

The spirit of life will always go on
as despair and the years try to chill.
But the love you shared, now makes you warm
As you stand on this windswept hill.

Fond memories of this love so fair
Like rippling streams now flood to thee
And as you breathe the mountain air
his soul joins yours, in harmony.

Now with these feelings so heartfelt,
they will brush all tears from your eyes,
like beams of sunlight when they melt
and vanish in evening skies.
