When Will You Be Back?

by

Jolanta Gradowicz

You promised me to come back soon.
Your promises - like the clouds above –
Disappeared in the face of the moon.
They were faint – just like your love.

Yet, I’m waiting for you patiently,
Missing your gentle voice and hand.
Once I thought you loved me dearly,
But now you are lost in a foreign land.

You promised me to send long letters
With assurances that your love’s lasting.
I think you should fulfill your pledges -
The sweet words – I’d be glad and trusting.

Oh! When will you be back at my side?
When will you knock again at my door?
Should I be then aloof or maybe proud?
No, I’ll embrace you and say: “Hello!”
