A Lover's Dream

by

Justin St. Pierre

lie awake
in stolen darkness virtue
is realized
one can scream
at the top of their lungs and yet
not make a sound
the things that pain me will
attach themselves like parasites
to my thoughts and reverberate inside
the echo chamber
that is my mind but
now you are there with me
your pain is mine and
we share it
together
Tears streak downward like
blood or rain and
flow through fault lines
or trickles like my kisses
down your naked spine
We do not speak nor
do we fear
at this moment I have found
perfection in your arms
your eyes close
as do mine and I drift
to sleep but instead I awake and
it has been
a dream
I am
alone
