Denial and Disillusion

By

Kristie Kusch

My hands reach out for you and encounter emptiness, denial, and disillusion.
This is what my hands embrace instead.

I don't want to see it. I close my eyes but it's too late. My wall has crumbled
and lies at my feet never to be resurrected.

My hands close into fists to protect me from all that I saw. I turn my back
hoping to be free but I can never be free because it all resides within me.
