Chapter 4

Twilight and Prince vanished after that. Sam had begun to wonder if it had all been a dream when it seemed to follow her back home, literally. She had been walking home one Friday afternoon thinking about Greg and school, when she saw Prince on her porch leaning up against the wall by the door with the living daylights beat out of him. Sam dropped her books and bolted up the stairs.

"Prince what happened? Where's Twilight? Where did you guys disappear off to?" Sam asked all at once.
Seeing that he was in no condition to talk yet, she helped him inside. He fell heavily into a kitchen chair with his eyes closed. If he hadn't been breathing heavily, she might have guessed he was dead. She brought him a glass of water and he downed it quickly with his eyes still closed. She sat in a chair beside him and waited for him to speak. He opened his eyes and stared at the ceiling. His gaze seemed sad and distracted. With an instant thought she leapt to her feet as her words came out fast and hard with fear.

"You have to tell me everything that happened," she demanded. Prince showed no sign of understanding.

"Please Prince, you have to tell me what happened," she said as she kneeled down in front of him.

"Please," she begged as she touched his hand. He jerked it back at her touch. Sam knew then, why he remained silent.

"You love her," she said quietly. He looked at her with unfamiliar eyes. They no longer seemed to know the answer to everything, they longed to have the answer laid out in front of him for the first time in his life.

"What happened?" she asked quietly. He cleared his throat as he began slowly looking in the distance.

"We were summoned by the Lord of Light to his castle. We were being given full powers to protect you, something only certain Seers are honored with. We were about to get our powers when the castle was attacked by the Dark Lord and all his demonic forces. Twilight and I were separated in the midst of battle and now…"

"And now your worried about her," Sam finished. Prince didn't say anything more, but he hung his head in defeat.

"Don't worry, we'll find her," Sam said as she smiled to try and cheer him up. He smiled weakly just a flash of bright light came from the living room in front of them. A serpent like white dragon flopped on the floor snarling and covered in blood. Prince leapt to his feet and went to the dragon's side. Sam stayed where she was and stared in shock.

"Help me, we need to get her to stay still or she'll hurt herself more," Prince panted. Sam hesitated.
"It's OK, it's Twilight," he panted again as he wrestled the dragon.

Twilight lay on the carpet still as a dragon and Prince sat beside her stroking her head as she rested. The carpet was stained with dragon blood and Prince had a few scratches from her struggling. Sam watched them from the kitchen as she filled a bowl with hot water to clean her wounds. She couldn't help but smile. As she watched her thoughts jumped to Greg. Would he worry about her, fight her to keep her from hurting herself and stand by her side through thick and thin like Prince did for Twilight? She shook the thoughts from her mind temporarily as she brought Prince the bowl.

"You don't have to do this you know," he said quietly after a while.

"I know, but you two have done so much for me and it's the least I can do," she said. He smiled as he dabbed Twilight's wounds gently.

"What will your mother say about the blood?" he asked. Sam's face fell. She hadn't thought that far ahead yet. She looked around at the blood stained rug and the dragon laying on it. Twilight had no wings but her feet were reptile like and her scales were soft and smooth like fur. Horns sprouted from her head and a sea green mane ran down the back of neck and back with her shoulders bare.

They sat in silence until Twilight suddenly opened her eyes and got to her feet, snarling. Sam reached out to stop her, but Prince grabbed her wrist and shook his head at her when she looked at him confused. She snarled at the front door with blood running down her jaws and onto the floor. Wisps of flames slipped between her fangs while a familiar shadow lingered in the doorway.

Bain appeared and looked ready to cause a whole lot of damage in his black robe with a gold medallion of a three headed beast around his neck. His wicked smile seemed bring the cold feeling back into Sam's heart, but seeing how bad Twilight and Price were hurt made her mad and she could fell the power rising within her.
A burst of white light shook the room and blinded Bain. Sam stood in the middle of the death to the demon that hurt her friends she had caused. She smiled in her glorious moment before she blacked out. Sam awoke in her room with her mom bent over her, worried. She smiled when she saw her daughter awake.

"I'm so glad your OK," she said, breathing a sigh of relief.

"What happened?" Sam asked with a dead feeling through out her entire body.

"Your friends said you fainted and they watched you until I got home, honey what were you thinking having that much sugar?" she said, shaking her head as she left Sam to rest. Sam put her hand over her eyes as she moaned into the darkness of her room. The marble on her necklace glowed briefly as she took her hand back, knowing someone was in the room with her.

"Who's there?" she asked into the shadows.

"Relax, it's me," came Twilight's voice. Sam sighed as she relaxed into her pillow.

"What really happened tonight?" Sam asked with her hand back over her eyes.

"You used your powers for the first time. You killed Bain and saved my life and Prince's," she said proudly.

"Powers? I don't have any powers," Sam said sitting up to look at Twilight.

"The Dragon Stone is your power source. Long ago the Chosen Ones powers were locked away in the stone to protect them from the Dark Lord and his forces. Tonight you unleashed them and now there's no turning back from the powers of the light."
