A Will to Survive

by

Linda Dousay

Slip and forever
be lost the soul
that always had strength
yet no will to unfold?

Be patient, my child,
I believe in your star—
I both cherish the infant
and man you now are.

Consider the rose bud—

When we try to open
the fragile young thing,
the mess we create
is destruction foreseen—

Be patient with God
and before your own eyes
the rose will unfold
with a will to survive.
