                            Umbrella leaves of brash design
                        Criss-cross weavings of rambling vine
                          Small pumpkins hiding in between
All a-snooze and tucked in with green.

                           A pumpkin dream on Halloween
To dance across the country scene
Leaving the fields so far behind
Down the paths and roads to wind.

A tiny pumpkin heels and toes
On tiny legs and feet in hose
And grabs a hand of near-by pal
In calico pinafore, a country gal.

To dance and circle 'til all too soon
They face a smiling harvest moon
Who gladly reflects their golden hue,
                            Laughs and winks without ado.

Weary, then, to come to rest
On a country porch as welcome guest --
                              Tiny faces in hilarious grins
                          Gruesome teeth above their chins.

And children laugh and skip along
To hear the smiling pumpkin song
Which whispers through the autumn night
Warm and wonderful with no chilling fright.
