Ever Near, Yet Oh So Far Away

by

Matt Dotson

Walking this long road
I see your face in the shadows
Watching me, following me along the way
Eating away at my defenses
Making me weak and helpless
I fall to my knees

Running this long race
I feel your breath, gaining on me every step
Chasing me down
Taking my pride
Bending my will
To do what you please

Falling in this endless hole
Short of breath I scream
A voiceless wreck I fall
The end ever near
Yet oh so far away
And still I fail to see

A hand reaches out
But I push it away
Regretting my actions I’m left on my own
But life is to hard for any man
And as reality sets in I reach for this hand
Only to fall once more
