Hail the Mighty God Cyber

By

Megan Love

I keep hearing the word 'cult' bandied about as if its very existence and utterance signifies uncontrolled evil.

Strangely the term cult refers to two or more people of the same belief system...

Government is a cult...
Science is a cult...
Math is a cult...
Sport is a cult...
Education is a cult...
Friendship is a cult...
Marriage is a cult...
Family is a cult...
The Internet is a cult...

Once it was defense of the 'cults' lands thus food, shelter and water, that drove man to stop simply hunting beasties and start hunting each other.

As women dropped their babies and these babies grew, they needed feeding... one a year, 30% mortality rate in the first ten years, still the population grew... and needed more feeding, and soon the stronger ones, the ones who didn't want to be hungry this winter started sneaking into the neighbors lands to hunt... and the neighbor, although not as strong, took exception...

They fought, these two cults, each believing they to be supreme owner of the bounty from this land... the strong taking control, not only of the land but the womenfolk as well...

Interbreeding starts, combined populations...

And then they breed and spread and need feeding and so the strongest start to sneak into the neighbor's lands to hunt... and the neighbors took exception and they fought and the strongest took control...

With each cult assimilation came a mutation of gods and beliefs, cultures and knowledge, blending into the social structure to lend second hand control to he that could raise the most hatred and cult pride among his peers...

Because the strongest usually wins in the survival of the fittest... but this time around, one will be seeing ones that are mentally fit surviving because their very minds will become a valuable commodity...

Once the social structures required muscle and slaves to build their ornamental tributes... but nowadays, as science rolls into the role formally held by deity, it is the minds that can translate the words of the new 'God'... almighty Cyber - god of imagined space... deity to those that see his words being mankind's savior and future as they bow their heads to stare in wonder at the key strokes that he channels about the globe, across space even...

But in reality the world of cyberspace, his domain, his heavenly expanse, one has but to push a button and he is gone... only a memory on a mother board... until one commences the next day's holy homage to him in the effort to keep the dream alive by participation of his followers - and how these numbers grow...

Millions join the worship of the good god Cyber every annum, one uses propaganda to ensure this effect, as one goes out to the unenlightened and shows off one's own advantage to others, copying emails that make it all seem so easy to have one's questions answered in short time, by simply pushing some buttons prayer like... try using a search engine, it is similar to confessional, where one must ask for guidance and be given a selected array of penances to read through for the single gem of wisdom one searches for...

One suggests sagely that one's peers would be entertained and given the chance to build of themselves if they just submit and buy a vehicle to give them access to the new god Cyber...

But this new god doesn't care for knee bending, it instead demands the constant striving for repetitive strain injury within the joints of one's fingers and wrists from the continual homage paying of the more faithful of the flock...

This god doesn't require its minions to bear arms as a sign of good faith against non believers, instead it simply allows itself to be spread bare and perverted to become whatever the new potential follower wants to see, from sex to pristine virtue, it will comply with its worshippers desires... it is unisex, and gives equal time to both sexes and the issues each raises... it is commercially inclined, giving rise to the notion that followers could make dollars peddling its wares...

It, more than any other god has ever demanded, demands that one's mind is one's weapon, and one's wits are one's shield... and as such, as the next over throw of modern deity happens, so those that have the minds to build a new future from the rubble that is left, to rebuild the shrines to house the new god, will become a more valuable commodity... muscle is easily achieved... mind power takes a lifetime of preparation...

Within the minds of the people lay the age old answers...

Within the minds of the masses lays the collective knowledge that is jealously guarded for fear of being out-competed in one's own field. As the chef won't divulge his trademark personal recipes, neither the scientist would make public the cure for the common cold freely to all mankind without there being something in it for him...

It is human nature to acquire, which leads directly from the instinct to learn... this single instinct to learn has set mankind apart from the beasties with a flare for destruction...

Mankind, like all toddlers, usually creates more devastation than creation when it first seeks to 'learn' something new...

It appears on the surface to learn by its mistakes, and yet historically, it simply window dresses them into a newly named, minutely adjusted clones of what didn't work before...

Mankind has become complacent with its own ability to be considered superior because simply it can, in deity-like fashion take from that which would challenge it...

And yet, there is little on Earth, save Mistress Nature herself that could unleash total devastation on mankind, saving mankind himself, as he has repeatedly shown himself to be capable...

As mankind progresses, it becomes more arrogant... in its very propaganda that is accepted by our youth, ever evolving special effects show it that mankind will survive unscathed bar the loss of a few million folks that got in the way of a hostile alien take over bid, and will rebuild to live again...

Movies reflect reality... glossy as their portrayal may be, they portray what the public wants to see and hear... and mankind is arrogant enough to think that they can outwit, out think and out learn anything that could come and pose a threat to the planets non-peaceful existence, when in fact, mankind has yet to learn to live in harmony with its own species, let alone unite and take on a common external threat...

So completely in awe of our own brilliance is mankind, it has lost sight of the fact that perhaps it is only a babe in arms when it comes to knowledge, with a majority believing in some mythical form of deity, even if not practicing it...

The human mind, the very driving force behind this arrogance, is among the least understood components of our own existence... the human mind is less understood than almost any other known on the planet...

That mankind can't bring itself to lay down its weapons that it wields on the say so a few, be them politicians or clergy, and
unite as a force, to commonly share knowledge as a right not a privilege, so as to allow for the redistribution of the wealth to be done in a fashion that is befitting the ever evolving new countries as they progressively learn to apply new knowledge to their situations and in turn become self sufficient once more, joining a global trading exercise that will recognize their ability to compete and aid them to learn how to do this effectively and profitably themselves, without the need for external enforcement of others values...

Mankind seems to forget that the people dying now of starvation would have done so 1000 years ago without the bleeding hearts being given an up to the minute report on death rate etc... this happens as part of the natural selection... to preserve the viability of the blood lines, only the fittest will survive... to do this, the fittest must be able to call upon dormant instinct of survival to do whatever it takes to survive, to become whatever it takes to wake up tomorrow, to live long enough ton reproduce... and so it goes on, over and over...

There is no reason this planet can't support every being now and those that come in the future, but it is so busy with its own internal over governing that it can't see the forest for the trees, and in this lies its own fatal flaws...

By its very nature, mankind is bringing about its own evolution, in which only the strongest genetic patterns will survive unscathed... and these will absorb the weaker less evolved as it goes...

The weaker will be bred out as the more mentally fit, those that can adapt by learning instinctively that which is around them and apply on demand and command their knowledge to produce answers and theories to rebuild a social structure in such a way as to allow for peace, but keep basic don't be killing neighbors unless they want to kill you first type social direction and order...

The stronger will become more powerful, as they implement new learning methods and influence the young, who interestingly, already appear to have tapped into the instinctive need to learn and are doing so much more so than any generation before in the past 100 years... whilst mankind's more potent minds have learnt much, it is only now in the west that the average people
have so much information and misinformation at their finger tips, found in cafes across the globe, the mighty God Cyber reaches forth to grasp the imagination of the unwary and willing...

Those that wish to survive should not be so much worried about their wealth accumulation as much as what they think freedom stands for and how they intend to protect their own, 'cause anything you own outside of your naked body, is replaceable or regrettable... anything encased within is sacred and should be treated accordingly...
