Isolation

by

Monorum Horl

He had heard rumors
that outside his room
the world is restless
had heard that red colored leaves
fall beneath their trees
as I murmur into his ear.
He could smell the fresh autumnal fragrances,
could hear the groaning of branches.
at times he felt the cold
from the decaying of clouds.
but one night, looking out the window
for the moon to rise,
he could only see
the reflections of his face and fears:
a fear to love, to hate, to cry,
to feel warmth, comfort and joy.
He let his soul and spirits flutter
so far and away from earth,
only to remain in a small room,
sheltered from the world,
fading in unrelenting darkness.
