Heartbroken

by

N.E. Elrafei

I sit here heartbroken
trying to forget that you are gone
to forget the way you hugged me
the way you kissed me
your soft lips against mine
searching me
knowing me

But I cannot
for my memory will always hold
the time we spent
together
the way you embraced me
the way you caressed me
the way you looked at me

The way you loved me

As I sit here heartbroken
I try to remember
when your eyes started looking so fake
when less and less time was spent together
when ‘I love you’ was just another
Three word phrase

And suddenly I don’t want to remember
You
or anything to do with you
I want to block out the
pain filling my bleeding heart
I want to block out the world
pitying my dead heart

I want to shut down
