Where are Those Words?

by

Natalia Zaretsky

How to find words and silence between them,
and know what is underneath them,
and in the space above and beyond?

How to say those words in dialect
of drowsy autumn or flurry of snow?
How to translate lovers' sighs
into their life-long lovesong?

How to make words exact and stable -
not wobbling like a straw
carried in a procession of black ants?

Not to shout them from the tower of ambitions,
but breathe them out in whispers,
as whiffs from the spring awakening soil.
