The Rhyme Scheme

by

Nathan Boltz

Imprisoned in thought,
Held back self-expression,
But resist I cannot
This wordy oppression.

Why they did do so
I could never say.
Like seeds no one can sow
Due to this horrid cliché.

Break this vicious trend,
I must break free.
Then finally I’ll mend
This heartless debris.
Filled with uncertainty…
Should I break this trend?
This is my lone decree,
It must come to an end.

Though there’s a thought to which I cling
It seems so sublime
Maybe it is not such a bad thing,
To want to Rhyme.
