My Lasting Word

by

Nicole Starleigh Yeager

There’s just one last thing
I wish you to know
That even after all the heartache
After all the pain you caused
I still love you, probably always will
A curse I will live with for the rest of my life
And that doesn’t mean we can be again
It just means that there’s something special between us
Something that will never die
No matter how much we ignore it
An eternal flame that I’ll lock behind the walls of my heart
The day will come, I know,
That we’ll cross paths on the street
And I will still remember how much I love you
And I will still feel how much I miss you
But I won’t forget all the pain and scars
And even if you catch my eyes
I will turn my head and keep moving on
No matter how badly I yearn to run to you
Because I can never let you in again
Please, just know... if you ever feel alone,
There is one out there, somewhere,
Who will never stop loving you
From this distance I must keep.
