Humpty Dumpty Man

by

Raye McDonald

I sit silently among the cheering throng
and watch as a man
works the crowd.
He is charming and enticing and effortlessly
gathers the gullible
into his waiting
arms.

He has mastered the art of keeping
the people up on a
high plane.
Little do they know that behind that
fake smile is a sad man.
And his adoring fans will one day
scatter, when his humanity
is exposed.

And his shell will become full of gaping
cracks and he will tumble
to the ground in brokenness.
He will cry out and look all
around for someone
who can put the pieces of
him back together
again.

And God will restore the
Humpty Dumpty
man.
