Between Heartbeats

by

Rusty Broadspear

Holding dear, the time between heartbeats.
They pause, when even thinking of you.
Separate agendas abide between heartbeats,
That shine with the newness of dew.

A bond, a psychic phenomena,
I'm aware that you're aware of it too.
For when time is ours between heartbeats,
We're close, side by side, me and you.

My life in my time between heartbeats,
Is wistful, reflective and warm, yet despite
Syrupy longings for such illusive love,
This time is bright, alight, sizzling dynamite.

So priceless, this time between heartbeats.
An oasis between two distant shores,
A timeless retreat, when soul mates can meet.
Between heartbeats is mine, is yours.

To cradle a flower as it blossoms
And whisper a wish to her splendour,
Makes my heart fall apart between heartbeats
Our time is so true, so tender.
