The Last Goodbye

by

Staci Rice

“Laugh whenever you can, cry when you need to, Scream when you want to, apologize when you know in your heart you should, and always love when it feels right because life never gives what it takes.” That was what a young girl wrote on the card that would now be buried with her father. She was driving home from her father’s funeral repeating that in her head, thinking of all the times and memories she had with her father, and wondering if she turned into the young girl her father would have wanted her to be, when all of a sudden all she could feel was the warmth of her own blood that surrounded her. She looked around and all she could see was flashing lights, then for what seemed like a lifetime later she hear a voice say “I don’t think she’s going to make it,” right before she closed her eyes.
