The Gloomy Winter Evening

by

Uzma Sadaf

How gloomy are the winter evenings,
Very long, very deep, sunken in darkness,
The winter evenings.
The long spreading shadows of deep evenings,
Cobra like shadows,
And the terrified birds,
Shunned with the fear of death,
Supporting their lives in their hands,
And escaping from the coming monster,
Avoiding the mirrors,
And startled from the foot steps, Fighting with darkness,
In the hope of light,
The poor tiny birds! Decorating dreams in their eyes,
To reach the sky,
Looking to their scattered feathers,
With wistful eyes,
The innocent birds!
How gloomy are the winter evenings!
