Lift Me Up

by

Yvette S. Davis

I did it again, I stepped over the edge
without a single thought of the consequences

I couldn’t see through the clouds to find the ledge
a fallen angel in need of a guiding hand

when the fog clears I see you there
steadfast and loving, always forgiving

your love pours over me like the rain in spring
cleansing my soul with the purity it brings

lift me up, you’re the only one
the Alpha the Omega, Jesus on the cross
you saved me with your only begotten son

take away my pain
forgive me my shame
lift me up, edify me yet again

give me the strength to keep up my faith
keep me alive with your loving grace
your love is eternal, it’s the only one that’s true
I know in the end the one I will be with is you

so lift me up, I will be betrothed in your holy light
your love is like an infinity of candles burning bright
so guide me on this earthly flight
keep me grounded, but lift me up
